23rd UN Climate Change Conference
International representatives gather in Bonn, Germany, from 6-17 November for the 23rd U.N. Climate Change Conference, known as COP23.
The meeting aims to make progress on the goals set by the landmark Paris climate change accord of 2015, which requires nations to reduce carbon emissions in an effort to curb global warming.
Overshadowing the conference will be U.S President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw his nation from the Paris accord, putting the United States sharply at odds with the other 194 countries that signed up to the agreement.
COP23 will be chaired by Fiji, one of the small states of the South Pacific which claim that climate change is wreaking havoc in their islands.
