23 February 17
United Nations-facilitated Syria peace talks are formally scheduled to convene in Geneva, Switzerland, on 23 February 2017.
The talks were previously postponed to allow time for the ceasefire in Syria to solidify, to give the Syrian government a chance to consider concessions and to offer armed groups the opportunity to attend as "one unified opposition," according to UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura, who will lead the peace talks.
