Snowstorm Paralyses Washington
Washington, USA
Special Event:
The US federal government in Washington was shut on Monday, 8 February 2010 while the Mid-Atlantic region dug out from as much as one meter of snow that left tens of thousands without power and blocked trains, planes and cars, with another storm looming. Federal agencies that employ 230,000 in Washington were closed, as were many local governments, businesses and school districts across the region.
The National Weather Service called the storm "historic" and issued a new storm watch for the Washington area Tuesday, saying an additional 25 centimeters of snow is expected.
