Only on AP: US China Drugs
'Only on AP' highlights AP investigations, in-depth features and character-driven stories that take a different angle on the news.

* US / China / Drugs / Story #4072371

An entire new class of deadly drugs is emerging according to the US Drug Enforcement Administration, many of them made in China for export around the world.

They are feeding America's hunger for opioids - an epidemic of drug abuse that now kills more people than car crashes.

These synthetic opioids are claiming thousands of victims, with the pop star Prince included amongst their numbers.

US officials say China is the main source of the fentanyl-type drugs that end up in North America. China disagrees, however, and says that the assertion is unsubstantiated.
